Free
advice to anyone with pet behavioral issues. We have an extensive range
of
free
handouts and a lending library at the Shelter, a radio show
the third Wednesday of each month 7:50 to 8 am on KPRK, and monthly
advice column
in the free Montana Pioneer.
Whenever possible, we hope to help people
solve pet problems with established tips and tricks to keep animals in
their homes.

We
accept every domestic animal brought to us and care for the
physical and emotional well-being of the nearly 1,000 animals we
shelter each year; euthanizing only animals with untreatable illness or
those who would be a danger to the community. We do not euthanize for
length of stay at Shelter, breed, or space constraints.

Stafford Animal
Shelter’s trained Adoption
Counselors spend
time with potential pet owners discussing their lifestyle, environment,
family, and ideal dog or cat after the extensive adoption form has been
filled out in order to make a lasting match. All animals are leave the
Shelter on a test drive basis – a seven day commitment-free period that
helps the adopter, any other pets, and the new animal determine if it
is a good fit.

Volunteers
learn basic dog training
methods and work
with untrained or high energy dogs to help make them more adoptable.
Volunteers attend several classes to learn our methods, then practice
what they’ve learned with the shelter residents weekly for a six-month
period. Call 406-222-1312
or email
behavioradvice@imt.net.

Our volunteers average over
100 hours each month
walking dogs, brushing and playing with cats, helping at fundraising
and public relations events, and fostering orphan kitten or puppies who
need to be bottle fed. We are always looking for new volunteers. If you
are interested, please call Kris, our Development Coordinator, at (406)
222-1313 or email shelterbark@imt.net.
